Nicole Patrick, percussionist, was born and raised in Miami, FL. She has sought out a diverse musical training with the intention of exploring a limitless life through the arts. She performers regularly with rock bands, improvisation groups, dance collaborations, pit orchestras, performance art, chamber ensembles and orchestras around the United States.
In 2016, Nicole completed her undergraduate degrees at the University of Michigan, studying percussion performance and jazz & contemporary improvisation. During her studies, she was a recipient of the International Institute Individual Fellowship grant, which allowed her to travel to Germany to study innovative pedagogical techniques of composer/percussionist Julie Spencer and Berlin dance company, Tangente Company. She continues to be a student of both, and composes music for Tangente Company.
She also received grants to perform in South Africa with the Michigan Percussion Quartet as guest artists for the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival. In addition to performing, the quartet teamed up with multiple drum companies to donate instruments and mallets to the host institution of SICMF, University of Stellenbosch. While in South Africa, the quartet also gave masterclasses at the University of Cape Town, and local after-school music program, Jamestown Sounds.
For two years, Nicole curated a concert series in an intimate house venue in Ann Arbor. This love of curation played a major role in the conception of Ann Arbor’s Threads All Arts Festival. She is the director and co-founder of this annual festival that celebrates the art of local Southeast Michigan artists of all disciplines.
She has been the drummer with various professional theatre companies including Theatre Aspen and Zoetic Stage. In Ann Arbor she has worked with Musket Theatre, University Productions and Emerson School. While growing up in Miami she played regularly with Area Stage Theatre, Roxy Theatre and Miami Children's Theatre.
She was the winner of the 2015 Black Swamp Multi-Percussion Solo Contest as well as the recipient of Sabian Larrie Londin Memorial Scholarship on drumset.
Nicole graduated Interlochen Arts Academy in 2012, where she spent her senior year absolutely amazed every single day. Prior to IAA, she was involved with many community music and theatre organizations in Miami, FL all throughout her childhood. She is also an alumna of both the School for Improvised Music and So Percussion Summer Institute.
